Hello,
My name is Taylor Wiegele and I am the Chief of Staff for Berkeley Model United Nations’ 58th Session. I would like to personally welcome you to our website and thank you for your interest in BMUN.
We are a diverse group of undergraduates comprised of different majors and backgrounds bound together by our common interest in international relations and the United Nations. We host an annual conference that attracts over 1,500 high school students who debate international issues in a forum that we moderate. These issues range from trials in the International Court of Justice to nuclear weapons in the Middle East.
BMUN also participates in many international events around campus including the International Career Symposium, a conference and dinner for students interested in careers in international diplomacy.
Community service is also highly valued among the members of Berkeley Model United Nations; our outreach program works with local high schools to develop Model United Nations programs where due to financial or social constrictions they would otherwise not exist. We host a workshop for Bay Area schools in mid-October where we teach the fundamentals of parliamentary procedure, teamwork, and diplomacy.
Berkeley Model United Nations is also a social club with events that occur often throughout the year. We hold barbeques, poker nights, banquets, and other activities in addition to a winter retreat to Lake Tahoe.
With fifty-eight years of prestige BMUN has an extensive alumni network with former members in virtually every sector of the economy including foreign service, consulting, engineering, law, and science. Our alumni soiree unites the current and former members annually during dinner and a night of socializing.
As a fourth-year member of Berkeley Model United Nations I would like to recommend application to become a member of our club. Our members are some of the most active students at the University of California, Berkeley and the benefits of membership are endless. My involvement in Berkeley Model United Nations has shaped my collegiate experience immensely. It has introduced me to the most interesting people I know, opened doors for my future career, and allowed me to be a positive influence in the lives of many high school students.
Sincerely,
J. Taylor Wiegele
