Is there an advantage to registering online?
Yes. BMUN encourages advisors to register their schools online rather than sending in a registration form via mail. With paper registration, there is a chance of lost mail or lost paperwork. Online registration minimizes delays because all records are entered into our database.
What if I send in a paper registration form? How do I access my account?
We highly discourage doing this! We encourage everyone to register on-line as it makes the process easier for both BMUN and the advisors.
If you do send in a paper registration form, Catherine Choh the USG of External Relations creates an advisor account for you and e-mails you the information. If anyone is having trouble logging in, let her know and she will e-mail you a new password immediately.
How do I know my account has been activated?
Once you register and click submit, your information has been logged into our database. You can go back and make changes until your country and committee assignments have been made.
Once I create an advisor profile and register my school, will I be getting a confirmation?
Unfortunately, BMUN does not have any automatic registration confirmation system at this point. As of the 58th session, we do not send a confirmation email. You should, however, expect to receive your country assignments within reasonable time. If you register before the early deadline in September, you should receive country assignments on or around November 9, 2009. If you register after the early deadline, you should expect to see your country assignments within a week of the registration date.
How will I receive my country/committee assignments?
BMUN makes the country assignments available online for each school. Each advisor who logs into the school account should be able to view the assignments. If you register before the early deadline in September, you should receive country assignments on or around November 9, 2009. I registered my school online over a week ago but still have not gotten my country assignments. What do I do?

FAQs About Country Assignments
I see on my assignments list that I have been assigned different countries for different blocks. Is this normal?
Yes. In order to better fit delegation sizes and preferences, BMUN makes separate assignments for different blocks. For example, Brazil in Block A might be assigned to a different school than Brazil in Block B.
What do the blocks mean?
Block A refers to the large General Assembly committees. For the 58th session, Block A committees are 1st Committee (Disarmament and International Security), 3rd Committee (Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian), 4th Committee (Special Political and Decolonization), and 6th Committee (Legal). All four are double-delegation committees, which means that one(1) Block A assignment yields eight(8) seats. Block B refers to the medium sized committees. For the 58th session, Block B committees are the seven(7) economic and social committees. All seven are double-delegation committees, and one(1) Block B assignment yields fourteen(14) seats.
My school has been assigned China for Block A. Does this mean my school represents China in every committee at BMUN?
No. Only the specific committees stated have been assigned to your school.
Which ones are the single-delegate committees at BMUN this year?
For the 58th Session, the International Court of Justice, Organization of American States, Arab League, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and Crisis committees will be for single delegations. All other committees are for double delegations.
FAQs About Deadlines
What do the deadlines mean?
For tasks that need to be done online (e.g. filling out delegate roster), BMUN will accept all changes until 11:59 pm of the stated deadline. For tasks that need to be done via mail (e.g., registration fees), BMUN will accept all material postmarked by the stated deadline.
There are two different deadlines for delegate position papers. What does each mean?
February 8 is the deadline for delegates to submit their position papers to be eligible for both research awards and committee awards. February 22 is the deadline for delegates to submit their position papers to be eligible for only committee awards and not research awards.
There have been cases in past BMUN conferences where delegates who did not submit position papers on time were eligible for awards. Is this going to happen again?
Absolutely not. Following strong advisor feedback from past conferences, BMUN will strictly enforce position paper deadlines. For the 58th Session, only those delegates who sent in their position papers by February 22, 2010, will be eligible to receive committee awards. Exceptions will be made only under special circumstances by the Secretary-General.
Has my payment been received? Where can I view my financial statement?
In regards to payments, once your payment is received by BMUN, this will be noted on our website in the Financial section, which you can access on the menu on the left-hand side of the page. If you have mailed us a check, but it is not indicated on your account, please e-mail the USG of External Relations at info@bmun.net. Remember that the early registration school fee only applies to your school if you registered before October 23rd.

How will position papers be submitted?
This year, in-line with BMUN’s goal of facilitating a waste-neutral conference, position papers will be accepted via on-line submission only.
Will the Security Council at BMUN 58 have five delegations per school like last year?
No, BMUN 58’s Security Council will be a standard double-delegation committee.
What does BMUN 58 mean by “going green”, and why is BMUN undertaking this initiative?
Berkeley is the third greenest city in America. All around us, institutions are making efforts to reduce paper and water waste. BMUN believes in living the principles we espouse, and that is why we have undertaken the going green initiative. Our conference will be going waste-neutral by reducing paper waste via on-line submission of position papers and projected (rather than printed) resolutions. Also, the staff will work to recycle and compost all waste produced by the conference. As it is impossible to run a conference without a certain amount of waste, we plan on carbon-offsetting to make up for such waste.
