Delegate FAQs

Q: I’ve never attended a MUN conference before? What should I do in committee?

A: First of all, be sure to ask for your chairs’ help if you ever have any questions. We were all first-time MUN delegates at some point, so we understand that your first conference can be intimidating and confusing. The key is to participate in the committee and get a feel for how debate flows. Don’t be afraid to make speeches or comments – getting up and speaking in front of committee despite the inherent nervousness of doing so is a part of the learning process.

Q: Where can I download a copy of the BMUN Delegate Guide?

A: The Delegate Guide is available under the Conference tab. Click on Resources, which is found under the Conference Preparation sub-tab. If you have any questions regarding the policies found in the Delegate Guide, contact the USG of Research at research@bmun.net.

Q: The comments on my committee's blog do not work. What should I do and who can I contact?

A: Unfortunately we have been having trouble with blog comments. E-mail your Head Chair to alert them to the problem. Head Chair e-mail addresses can be found on the front page of your committee’s topic synopsis. Delegates are advised to e-mail their responses to the blog posts to the committee’s Gmail account.

Q: Where do I e-mail my position papers?

A: All position papers must be e-mailed to your committee’s official Gmail account. The list of committee e-mail accounts can be found under Position Papers, which is located under the Conference Preparation sub-tab.

Q: I would like to participate in (committee name), but my school did not receive a country assignment in that committee. How can I get added?

A: We can only fill assignment requests from advisors whose names are listed on the registration forms. Please have your advisor e-mail the USG of External Relations at info@bmun.net.

Q: What is BMUN’s award policy?

A: A position paper is required in order to qualify you for a committee award. Feb. 8 is the deadline to be eligible for both a research award and a committee award. Feb. 22 is the deadline to be eligible for a committee award only. Any position papers submitted after this date will disqualify you from earning a committee award.

BMUN offers 3 types of committee awards: Gavel, Outstanding, and Commendation. A Rapporteur award is also given to the delegation that the committee feels was the “spokesperson” of the committee. Chairs will be looking for the following qualities in determining which delegations earn awards:

1. Solid research on the committee topic, which should be demonstrated both during debate and in position papers.

2. Active participation on the committee blog.

3. Demonstration of a strong sense of diplomacy.

4. Speeches and comments that are on-topic.

5. Demonstration of a firm grasp of the committee topic, critical thinking, and thorough analysis of the problems at hand.

6. Proposal of feasible, detailed resolutions.
