Letter from the Under-Secretary General of Research
Dear Delegates,
It is my distinct honor to welcome you to the 58th Annual Session of Berkeley Model United Nations. My name is Julius Chen, and as the Under-Secretary General of Research, I am in charge of committees and conference policies. BMUN is the nation’s oldest high school United Nations simulation, attracting high-caliber delegates from all over the world. I would like to take this opportunity to talk about the upcoming conference.
In an ongoing effort to create a committee environment that allows delegates to more easily interact with each other and their chairs, we are offering a greater number of committees this year and reducing their sizes. The 58th Session will feature nineteen unique committees, each engaging you to participate in active, fast-paced debate and work closely with other delegates. The three types of committees are large General Assembly committees, medium-sized Economic and Social committees, and small, advanced specialized committees. Brand new committees are being introduced this year, including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, League of Arab States, and Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Each committee, chaired by highly motivated and knowledgeable members of the Secretariat, features thought-provoking topics that will challenge you to think creatively about how best to resolve the problem at hand.
Whether you are a first-time MUN delegate or an experienced conference participant, BMUN will help you acquire the tools needed to thoroughly analyze pressing world issues and effectively debate them. You will not only learn a tremendous amount during the three days you spend on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley, but also have an unforgettably fun time. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the conference. Good luck preparing and see you in March!
Sincerely,
Julius Chen
Under-Secretary General of Research, 58th Session
